About Purewell Kitchens3 generations of family ownership
At Purewell Electrical we know the importance of family, and the support they can provide. And from the beginning in 1955 when Arthur Griffiths founded Purewell Electrical with the help of his wife Doreen (who sold her car to buy the first stock), we have been striving to improve the lives of the residents of Purewell and Christchurch, by providing the technology that makes people happy. In the 1950’s we sold some of the earliest automatic vacuum cleaners and radios, before the television became popular!
Over the coming decades the business expanded and at times we have had stores in Ringwood, New Milton and Highcliffe, as well as operating departments within the Beales department stores in both Poole and Bournemouth.
Arthur’s youngest son Ian took over the day-to-day running of the business in the late 1990’s and oversaw the company’s move from its home of 46 years in Purewell, to a new 12,000 sq ft electrical superstore nearby. Purewell Electrical are also members of Euronics, Europe’s biggest independent buying group, which provides us with access to the biggest brands at fantastic prices – meaning we can continue to help our local customers, and their families with the latest technology including OLED televisions, built in kitchen appliances and whole home WiFi mesh systems.
Award winning service
Following our move, we went on to win the Retra Independent Retailer of the Year award in 2004, were runners-up in the Best Customer Service category and finalist in the Best Independent Retailer category at the 2011 Independent Business Awards, and a finalist at the 2013 ERT Awards in the Best Consumer Electronics Showroom category.
We have now opened our brand NEW 15,000 sq ft superstore in Christchurch following a £2m investment. Our new showroom was recently recognised at the 2015 IER Awards where Purewell won Best Independent Showroom; Purewell was also crowned Independent Electrical Retailer of the year.
The move to the current site gave us the space to add a kitchen showroom. This has been refitted and expanded several times, most recently in the winter of 2020/21. New staff have been added to make the most of the expanded range of kitchens that we now offer and to provide the “Purewell” level and quality of service that our customers have come to expect.
We are also able to supply exclusive products and can source most products, even if they are not present in store or on our website, and our team members all work to our company values, to make sure that we can help all of our customers to find exactly the right product for their needs.
We are also part of the RETRA trade association, an industry code of practice that ensures we always provide the best service and advice to all of our customers, providing the reassurance that we are a long established and respectable company working in our customer’s best interests through our 50+ years of trading!
Leadership of Purewell is now shared between Ian Griffiths and his son Ed.
